Tough round for Mortlake bowlers

ROUND 11 of bowls last weekend proved a tough one for the Mortlake club.

Mortlake 1 Blue (division one) lost to Warrnambool 2 Blue 54-67 (away).

Darren Grant lost to Michael McCallum 18-22; Les Johnson lost to Glen McNaughton 16-23; George Draffen lost to John Klein 20-22.

Mortlake Blue remains in third place, albeit with a reduced margin.

Fourth placed Warrnambool Gold are one point behind, with Warrnambool 2 Blue six points behind on 72 points.

Mortlake 2 White (division 2) lost to Koroit 2 Saints 29-89 (away).

Justin Rasmussen lost to Glen Keane 9-30; Colin Inverarity lost to Richard Farley 13-23; Paul Delaney lost to Tom O’Shannessy 8-36.

Mortlake White dropped down a slot to fifth place on shot difference, with sixth placed Warrnambool Green two points behind.

Mortlake 3 Gold (division 4) lost to Warrnambool 6 Orange 30-44 (away).

Don Murray lost to Chris Curtin 18-24; Max heard lost to Greg Howlett 12-20.

Mortlake Gold remains in fourth place on shot difference over City orange and four points ahead of sixth place Koroit 4 Saints.

Mortlake 1 Blue (Div. 1) lost to City 2 Red (away): Darren Grant lost to Greg Ritchie 12-22; Les Johnson def. Bruce Collie 22-18; George Draffen lost to Daryl Wiggins 11-17.

Mortlake Blue are now in fifth place and must win their last two matches to have a chance to make finals.

Mortlake 2 White (Div. 2) def. Port Fairy 2 Blue 57-37 (home): Dean McKenzie def. Stephen Lenehan 16-15; Paul Delaney def. Graeme Jensen 19-16; Justin Rasmussen def. Graeme Munro 22-7.

Mortlake White are now in fourth place, five points of fifth place Warrnambool 3 Red.

Mortlake 3 Gold (Div. 4) def. Dunkeld 2 White 34-30 (home): Don Murray def. Bob Napier 21-15; Max Heard lost to Gary Wall 13-15.

Mortlake Gold are in fifth place, one point behind fourth place City 9 Orange.

Mortlake Purple are now in sixth place.

Last we checked with the Tuesday Social Pennamt, Mortlake White were top of the table over Mortlake Blue and a bit of momentum was building.

Unfortunately, round 13 results weren’t made available before deadline so we’ll recap all the results next week.

Mortlake is holding a two day tournament on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1pm start.

Five games of six ends (four games plus a bye), $30 per team with afternoon tea.

There must be one lady or man per team and bowls attire is to be worn.

Members are asked to bring a plate of afternoon tea.
