Trains to return early
CREWS have completed critical rail maintenance in Victoria’s south west as work continues to upgrade stabling at Warrnambool Station which will now see trains return on May 13 – a week earlier than first announced.
V/Line chief executive officer Will Tieppo thanked passengers for their patience and understanding during the major infrastructure renewal works on the Warrnambool Line.
The $15.4 million maintenance works included level crossing upgrades, bridge and track works and mudhole removals.
“Our crews also worked inside the Geelong rail tunnel carrying out track and drainage upgrades to ensure the tunnel provides a vital connection for our passengers for many years to come,” Mr Tieppo said.
“These important upgrade and improvement work on the Geelong and Warrnambool lines ensure we can continue to offer a safe and reliable service to communities in the south-west.”
Works also included level crossing upgrades between Colac and Warrnambool, which included at Boorcan and Terang.
In addition, works are also taking place to upgrade the stabling facility at Warrnambool Station for more efficient train operations.
Mr Tieppo said the separate works to upgrade the stabling facility will continue into May.
“We are very happy to be able to return trains a week early for Warrnambool Line passengers and we thank the crews for their hard work to make this happen,” he said.
Passengers are encouraged to check the V/Line website for details about temporary timetables.
Passengers with accessibility needs can call 1800 800 007 prior to travelling to ensure staff are aware of their travel needs.
V/Line staff will also be available to assist priority passengers.
