MONSTERS came out to play last weekend with locals participating in the annual tradition of Halloween.

Mortlake Halloween trail map co-ordinator Kelly Burgess helped to organise a map in the lead up to the festivities to ensure kids and parents knew where they could trick or treat in advance, and there was no shortage of locals happy to get involved.

“There turned out to be nine houses in total and there were quite a few visitors popping around. I thought it went quite well,” Mrs Burgess said.

“There was quite a lot who had dressed up. Even some of the parents had dressed up as well.”

Mrs Burgess said there were plenty of treats for kids, but decorations were kept to a minimum due to the last minute nature of planning as COVID restrictions eased just in time to allow a COVID safe form of trick or treating.

Mortlake local Sadie Stapleton, 5, said Halloween was her favourite day of the year, apart from her mum’s birthday, and she loved getting dressed up to trick or treat.

“I love that everything is so spooky,” she said.

Mrs Burgess said she was looking forward to helping organise another community trail map for next Halloween, and hoped for bigger and better celebrations.
