THE local population temporarily swelled last week as visitors from the Triumph Sports Owners Association (TSOA) visited.
Up to 50 classic Triumph sports cars and their owners paid a visit to the region as part of the annual rally which was held in Warrnambool this year.
As part of the tour, a social drive day saw up to 50 classic Triumph sports cars travelling via Timboon to Port Campbell for lunch.
The group then enjoyed the scenic drive along the Great Ocean Road to Princetown before returning to Warrnambool via Peterborough and Allansford.
Last Wednesday TSOA members descended on Cobden for a fun day out taking in the South West Kart Club, Cobden Miniature Railway and Cobden Mini Golf.
The day at the kart club was run as a come and try event designed to highlight the skills of mature drivers on a level playing field, with the objective being consistency rather than speed while trying to replicate each lap in the same timeframe.
TSOA committee member and rally spokesperson Cath Macdonald said members had enjoyed the visit.
“It’s been good; we really enjoyed the scones, the mini trains and mini golf,” she said.
Mrs Macdonald said rally attendees had split between the miniature trains and mini golf and the kart track.
She said the time trials at the kart club would form part of the club’s iron man competition with the states competing to take home a trophy at the end of the rally.
“Last year was South Australia this year we’re hoping it’s Victoria (as the overall winner),” Mrs Macdonald said.
“The South West Kart Club have been very accommodating.
“The meal that we have had was amazing.
“We’ve enjoyed the area.”
South West Kart Club president Michael Clover said the club was pleased to be able to host the attending rally members.
“It was good,” he said.
“They enjoyed the day. A lot of them are racers and others got out there and learnt.
“It was more about consistent racing than speed.”
