Trouble early but Knights recover

WITH Cobden’s division one and division two teams both having the bye, the division three Knights were the club’s only team to take to the field on Saturday.

Playing at the Camperdown number two oval, Camperdown won the toss and elected to bowl.

The Knights were in big trouble early, slumping to 4/19 then 5/44 before recovering to be all out in the 40th over for 122.

Michael Pegg top scored with 29 from 39 balls, with Kaplan McCann making 20 from 33 balls and skipper Peter Merrett finishing on 13 not out.

Camperdown reached 2/49 from 20 overs before the rain set in, Cobden claiming the win under the Duckworth/Lewis system.

Bailey Clarke bowled an impressive new ball spell with 1/10 from seven overs, with young off-spinner Eamon Sloane taking the other wicket.

The rain on Sunday washed out scheduled matches for the Cobden women against North Warrnambool at Camperdown and for the under 16 boys against Heytesbury-Princetown at Timboon.

This week sees Cobden’s division one premier team travel to Apollo Bay to play the Sharks, the division two Knights host Heytesbury-Princetown Blue at Camperdown number two, while Cobden’s division three team play Boorcan at Boorcan.

On Sunday the Cobden women play Dennington at Dennington, while the under 16 Knights play Bookaar at Frederick Street.

The under 13 Knights start their season on Monday night against Ecklin at Ecklin.
