Trust has 83,000 reasons to smile
CAMPERDOWN Botanical Gardens and Arboretum received a boost to the tune of $83,000 recently.

CAMPERDOWN Botanical Gardens and Arboretum received a boost to the tune of $83,000 recently.
The local gardens was one of 26 to receive funding under the state government’s Victoria’s Botanic Gardens Grants Program.
Camperdown Botanic Gardens and Arboretum Trust secretary Janet O’Hehir welcomed the news.
She said the trust secured the grant after eight years of working towards the conservation and improvement of the significant heritage-listed site.
“This funding will give a huge boost to our program of improvement,” Ms O’Hehir said.
“It will enable new perimeter fencing for the whole site, arborcultural work for significant trees in the arboretum and the planting of succession trees.
“This work will be a step towards the re-opening of the arboretum to public access.
“It will also fund resurfacing of paths in the botanic garden, and some new garden furniture, which will enhance the experience of the many visitors who are now coming to the gardens.”
She said Corangamite Shire Council and the Trust will collaborate in the works.
“The Botanic Gardens and Arboretum have the potential to be a major attraction for our region, and are a wonderful amenity for people who live locally,” Ms O’Hehir said.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio said Victoria’s botanic gardens improve the environment and liveability and protect the ecosystems.
“This funding will help to ensure they are properly maintained and continue to be a treasured part of our state,” she said.
“Victoria is the garden state and this funding will help ensure we continue to enjoy that reputation.
“Our regional and rural gardens already make a significant contribution to the local tourism industry and these grants will help to further boost visitation and local economies.”
