Tunes a treat for festival crowd
FROM the twang of a steel guitar to high-energy bootscooting, this year’s annual Terang Country Music Festival provided a weekend of fun and musical talent for country music lovers.

Running from last Friday evening through to Sunday morning, festival chairman Geoff Barby said the weekend saw more than 400 people attend across the four sessions.
“We were really happy with the weekend,” he said.
“The quality of the music was outstanding.
“That country hospitality was reflected in the feedback.”
Particular highlights of the 13-band line-up included headline act Darren Coggan, who played a set to round off the Saturday session and then later during the Saturday evening ‘hoedown’.
“He took it to the next level on Saturday night,” Mr Barby said.
Another hit with attendees was The Excellent Smithers with their unique mixture of country, honky tonk and blues music.
“They were one of those real surprise and delight bands,” Mr Barby said.
Other performing bands and artists included Chalkie White, Travis Sinclair, The Bakersfield Glee Club and NeillyRich.
While high winds and the nearby Terang fire led to the early end of last year’s festival, this year saw wind conditions remain mild and the sun out for most of Saturday and Sunday.
“We did really well with the weather,” Mr Barby said.
The organising committee also paid tribute to departing member Julia McConnell, who had been taking care of performers in the ‘green room’ since the inaugural festival in 2011.
“Nothing was too much trouble for her,” Mr Barby said.
Camperdown siblings Archie and Heidi Nolan took out the competitions for best dressed cowboy and cowgirl.
