Twilight concert draws a crowd

IT was always going to take more than a little bad weather to rain on the parade of Terang’s Autumn Twilight Concert.

More than 50 people enjoyed a toe-tapping time on Sunday when the Autumn Twilight Concert was held to mark the seventh anniversary of the St Patrick’s Day bushfires.

Despite a downpour of wet weather seeing the show moved inside to the Terang Returned and Services League (RSL) hall on short notice, attendees were more than happy to shift their picnics indoors.

Terang Noorat Arts in the Avenues committee member Gabrielle O’Brien said she was pleased with the turnout despite the weather forcing the change of plans away from the envisioned evening bringing vibrancy to Mary Bradshaw Avenue.

Des McKinnon thanked attendees for their support despite the weather forcing the event indoors.

“It went very well,” she said.

“We’re very grateful to the RSL for allowing us to use the hall – it’s always good to have a plan B.

“It would have been great to have it in the avenue but the region also needed the rain.”

Musicians Tommy Harrold, Sue Gibbons, Madidi McKenzie and The Flamin 80s put on stellar performances, while Juns Home Kitchen and Bean Crazy set up their vans on RSL grounds to provide warm food and refreshments for all.

Ms O’Brien said part of the concept behind the event was supporting local performers, all of whom proved a hit with attendees.

“We had four performers who were all very different in their range and genre, which was all well received,” she said.

“Everyone really enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere.”

Ms O’Brien expressed her gratitude to the Terang Community Op Shop for helping to fund the event, which made its return for the first time since 2019.

“The last time we held the Autumn Twilight Concert, it was a beautiful afternoon in the avenue with people sitting around enjoying picnics and reconnecting,” she said.

“We haven’t done it again in a while and, while we had funds plus a donation from the Op Shop, we thought it would be good to bring it back.

“It gives the community an event to enjoy, and helps to support artists.

“We’ll see if we can do it again next year.”
