Two dead in horror Princetown crash

A HORROR start to the year has continued after two lives were lost in a crash on the Great Ocean Road last week.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision which occurred Princetown last Tuesday, January 28.

Emergency services were called to the Great Ocean Road after two vehicles were reported to have collided head on at about 3.40pm.

A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed two people had died at the scene.

“The driver of the first vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” the spokesperson said.

“Their yet-to-be formally identified passenger died at the scene.

“A passenger of the second vehicle, who is yet-to-be formally identified, also died at the scene.

“The driver and another passenger of the second vehicle were taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson confirmed six people were treated at the scene.

“A female in her teens was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition with an upper body injury,” the spokesperson said.

“A man in his 40s was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital in a serious condition with an upper body injury.

“A man in his 50s was transported by road ambulance to Geelong Hospital in a stable condition.

“A man in his 30s was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.”

At the time of the incident, 31 lives had been lost on Victoria roads – an increase from the 20 lives lost at the same time last year.
