The Bulls enjoyed an eight wicket win over Ecklin at MCP Oval last Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first.

After an early wicket to Brad Hillman the Ecklin team steadied, taking the score to 57 before spinners Tharaka Sendanayake and Matt Bignell broke through.

The Bulls then took consistent wickets right through to dismiss Ecklin for 151 in the 43rd over, with two wickets each to Hillman, Sendanayake, Bignell and Lahiru Fernando.

Pomborneit made light work of the run chase, passing Ecklin’s score in 19.3 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Openers Dave Murphy (64 from 45 balls) and Lahiru Fernando (33 from 28) got the team off to a flying start.

Grant Place (40 not out) and Sendanayake (16 not out) were at the crease when the winning runs were scored.

The division two Bulls started their season with a five wicket loss at Ecklin.

Batting first, Pomborneit slumped to 6/70 before a 72-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Luke Reynolds and Sam Whytcross helped put a competitive total on the board.

Reynolds made 73 and Whytcross 37 as the team finished on 8/153 for their 40 overs.

Max Rees, on senior debut, took the new ball and impressed with 1/4 from five overs but despite three wickets to Brady Bernoth and one to Josh Reynolds, the home team passed the score in the 34th over five wickets down.

Pomborneit’s division three team travelled to Woorndoo.

The home team batted first, making 7/143.

Veteran Tony Evans was miserly with 4/10 from eight overs while another senior debutante, Marc Van Es, bowled well to take 1/21 from five.

In reply the Bulls fell short, all out for 118 with brothers Levi Cootesmith (33) and Isaac Cootesmith (22) top scoring.

The Pomborneit Gold women started their season with a thumping win over Irrewarra at MCP Oval.

Top four batters Tayla Reynolds, Nellie Sadler, Samantha Coxon and Jess Moulden all hit the 30 retired mark.

Rachel Dendle finished on 26 not out as Gold made an imposing 0/197 from their 20 overs.

Skipper Sam Coxon ripped through the visitors’ top order, taking 3/4 from two overs.

Tayla Reynolds took 2/6 from two, with wickets to Rachel Dendle and Jess Moulden, dismissing Irrewarra for 27.
