Approved: Corangamite Shire approved an application for a two-lot subdivision in Camperdown.

DESPITE receiving an objection, Corangamite Shire Council voted to approve a two lot subdivision in Little Street Camperdown.

Shire planning officer Melanie Oborne said public notice of the application was given and one objection was received.

She said key issues raised in the objection included:

• Privacy (overlooking from future development);

• Stormwater management;

• Vehicle access;

• Off-street parking; and

• Easement impacts.

“The proposal provides an acceptable response to the Corangamite Planning Scheme, including the purpose and decision guidelines of the General Residential Zone and the strategic direction and policy of the Municipal Planning Strategy and Planning Policy Framework,” Ms Oborne said.

“The lots are an acceptable size and the vacant lot will be capable of accommodating future residential development."

“The proposed subdivision will increase residential land supply, support housing diversity and facilitates infill development in Camperdown.”

Councillors unanimously supported the granting of the subdivision permit at the April Ordinary Meeting of Council.

Cr Laurie Oakes said he did sympathise with the objector.

“It’s a difficult one,” he said.

“I’ve got sympathy for the objectors here because any time that the neighbours do some sort of development on their property, it does have an impact."

“I am quite confident that the 17 conditions on this permit would be met. They are quite extensive.”

Cr Geraldine Conheady also echoed the same sentiment.

“I do think that the proposal for this subdivision fits very well with our MPS (Municipal Planning Scheme) and planning policy framework,” she said.

“I appreciate the concerns that were raised by the objector and they are valid, but they are very manageable and are of the type that are generally addressed in a residential area."

“I think it fits with the context of this residential area and I believe it would accommodate the need for development.”
