PLAYER unavailability proved costly for Noorat Cricket Club’s division one side last weekend.

Facing Heytesbury Rebels, the team fought hard all day but could only manage 99 runs with the bat while the Rebels declared at 5/100.

Another win to the division three side sees them currently sitting equal first on the South West ladder.

Best of the batters for Noorat were Bernie Harris with 79, Jay Wynd on 22 and Nick Kenna 15.

Club president Michael Williams said the side was “thrilled” to see Harris “come out of retirement” for the weekend.

“Unfortunately player unavailability saw us short last weekend,” Williams said.

“We really missed the likes of opening batsman Gus Bourke in division one, while on the other hand it was great to see Bernie Harris come out of retirement for the day and help us out in division three.

“He had a great knock of 79 and we’re now hoping that after getting a bit of a taste for it again, he will play a few more games this season.”

Noorat’s division one side will take on Woorndoo at Woorndoo Recreation Reserve this Saturday in a game Williams is hoping will be a successful one.

“Hopefully we can get a few players back in the division three team this weekend, which will push a couple up into division one and bolster that side,” Williams said.
