Unblemished season continues
TERANG Mortlake’s senior footballers kept their unbeaten start to the season intact with a five point win over South Warrnambool in the round five Hampden League match on Saturday.
The Bloods came from behind at the last change to record a 10.6.66 to 9.7.61 win at the Friendlies Society Park.
“It was a pretty strong finish when they were up at three-quarter time and kicked the first goal in the last,” Terang Mortlake coach Lewy Taylor said.
“I thought after that we controlled most of that quarter, it was good to kick the last three of that final quarter and come home with the win, it’s always tough going there to win.”
Taylor was pleased with the fitness of his group, allowing them to run out the game the way they did.
“It all started back in November with a pretty big pre-season; the boys are fit, we’ve just got to make sure we keep rocking up to play, that’s the main message to the boys, which they’re doing at the moment.”
Jack Fowler and Alex Moloney were the Bloods best in the win.
“Jack’s had a good couple of weeks, he’s just going from strength to strength.
“Alex was solid again, just his intercept marking and being hard to play against and setting and directing the back line up, he’s been important for us.”
Xavier and Tyler Vickers continue as the competition’s tackling standouts, with 16 tackles and 24 disposals and 11 tackles and 22 disposals respectively.
“To have two players that can do that as well as get the footy and hit the scoreboard as well, we’re very lucky.
“They’re playing really well, and it’s a big, big reason as to why we’re going so well.”
Jackson Paine kicked three goals for the Bloods, with Will Kain and Taylor kicking two each.
Joe Arundell and Taylor led the possession getters for Terang Mortlake with 25 each.
This week the Bloods play Hamilton at Melville Oval.
“We just have to rock up with the same mindset we have had.
“I think it should be a good game, Hamilton are going pretty well, we’re looking forward to getting up there.”
In the reserves, South Warrnambool was too strong, winning 8.14.62 to 3.5.23.
Best for the Bloods were Matthew Baxter, Dylan Wareham and Lewis Cunnington.
The under 18 football saw South Warrnambool score a 10.10.70 to 4.2.26 win.
Zavier Fowler, Jobe Baker and Jack Farrell were best for Terang Mortlake, with Levi Draffen, Sam Membrey, Mason Barr and Farrell kicking a goal each.
South Warrnambool scored a huge 25.18.168 to 1.1.7 win in the under 16 game.
Percy Vaughan, Max Slater and Elijah Bradbury were best for the Bloods, with Paddy Meade kicking the only goal.
In the under 14s, South Warrnambool won 6.12.48 to 2.4.16.
Harper Dillon, Nate Irving, Darcy Meade and Oliver Clarke were best for Terang Mortlake, with Zac Clarke and Finn Scanlon kicking a goal each.
The under 12 football saw a 2.5.17 to 1.3.9 win for South Warrnambool.
Hayden Clifford, Ollie Primmer and Alexander Gubbins were best for the Bloods, with Primmer kicking the only goal.

In the Open netball, the undefeated South Warrnambool scored a 59-30 win.
Best for the Bloods were Ava Grundy, Lyla Grundy and coach Aimee Moloney, with Lyla Grundy scoring 17 goals and Jacqui Arundell 11.
The division one game saw South Warrnambool win 46-29.
Best for Terang Mortlake were Holly Fowler, Maddison Chesshire and Bailee Overweter, with Chesshire shooting 20 goals.
In division two, South Warrnambool won 45-10.
Holly Jones, Lizzie Justin and Ruby Lang were best for the Bloods in the loss.
South Warrnambool took out the division three netball with a 45-27 win.
Best for Terang Mortlake were Tess Harris, Sophie Conheady and Isla Primrose, with Primrose scoring 14 goals.
The 17 and under game saw Terang Mortlake win 30-29.
Lyla Grundy, Mckenzie Dillon and Tayla Bell were best in the narrow win, with Grundy shooting 23 goals.
Terang Mortlake also had a narrow win in the 17 and under reserves, 24-22.
Violet Dillon, Sommer Jones and Lucia Clarke were best for the Bloods, with Dillon shooting 14 goals and Tahnee Sachs 10.
South Warrnambool was too strong in the 15 and under game, winning 55-12.
Best in the loss for Terang Mortlake were Sadie Baker, Tilly Harrison and Chloe Bouchier, with Bouchier scoring eight goals.
The 15 and under reserves game saw South Warrnambool win 39-3.
Grace Boshier, Francesca Rickard and Beth Heffernan were best for Terang Mortlake.
The 13 and under game saw Terang Mortlake register a 30-24 win.
Annabelle Blackford, Daisy Dillon and Imogen Barr were best for the Bloods, with Blackford shooting 22 goals.
The 13 and under reserves netball went the way of South Warrnambool who scored a 22-8 win.
Daisy Sargeant, Layla Thornton and Mary Heffernan were Terang Mortlake's best, with Charlotte Boshier shooting four goals.
