Under 13 premiers

COBDEN Cricket Club’s successful 2024/25 summer season has continued, with the club taking out last weekend’s under 13 premiership in the Warrnambool Moyne competition.

The combined Mortlake Cobden side put on a great display at Mack Oval over the two days to defeat Raiders Nirranda Black.

Raiders won the toss and elected to bat first on Saturday, making 3/61 after 24 overs.

Best of the bowlers for Mortlake Cobden were Leo Slater with an impressive 4/3, Charlie Dunn 2/6 and Connor Jewell 1/25.

At the crease, Mortlake Cobden reached 7/167 in their 48 overs, with Jack Couch top scoring on 28, followed by Leo Slater with 25 and Cruz Lamont 17.

Other contributors to the scoreboard were Ryan Bailey (16), Zachary Dolling (15 not out), Clement Walsh (11), Michael Benallack (7) and singles to both Rhys Darcy and Charlie Dunn (not out).

In reply, Raiders made 7/137 after 48 overs.

Player of the match was awarded to Mortlake Cobden’s Leo Slater.

The day continued what has been a successful summer season for Cobden.

Late last month, the Knights defeated Storm in the under 13 South West Cricket grand final match at Pomborneit and also took out the under 16 premiership with a win over Bookaar.

The club hopes to add to its premiership wins this season, with both its division one and division two sides competing in respective grand final matches this weekend.

Division one will face Pomborneit while division two will play Storm.
