Combining with Mortlake in the under 17 Warrnambool and District Cricket competition, the team put on a great display with the bat and ball at Reid Oval last Sunday to defeat Allansford Panmure in the grand final.

The Gators won the toss and elected to bat first, reaching 7/142 after 45 overs.

Openers Archie Poumako (3) and Jake Carman (4) were dismissed early off the bowling of Campbell Walsh, before the side settled.

The Gators’ run tally lifted with the efforts of Matthew Gome (44) and Connor Brisbane (45) before Mortlake Cobden settled in the field and kept the majority of batsmen in single figures.

Parker Walsh was instrumental at the crease, taking 3/31 off eight overs, while Ryan Mottram also contributed a handy 2/25 off nine.

Other wickets fell to Cooper Herry 1/20 off six and Josh Slater 1/14 off nine.

In reply, Mortlake Cobden got off to a relative slow start with the bat, with opener Taj Podger run out on seven and fellow opener Campbell Walsh caught on 12.

Cobden’s Edmund Walsh steadied with a handy 24 runs, Edmund Walsh made 24 and Parker Walsh made 29 while team captain Oscar Ritchie contributed 17.

Mortlake’s Josh Slater proved instrumental on the scoreboard, making a quick unbeaten 30 from 26 balls in an innings that included three boundaries.

Cobden Mortlake finished the day on 6/145 in the 44th over to claim the premiership.

To top off the celebrations, Cobden’s Parker Walsh was named player of the match.
