PETS and their owners are invited to Camperdown’s Uniting Church for a special pet blessing to celebrate the completion of works on the church.

The church has been undergoing repairs and repainting over the past few months, which have been recently completed.

The pet blessing, to be held on Sunday, will allow people to see the updated church while also being able to have their animal companions blessed.

Minister Reverend Suzie Castle said the church has “put out the welcome mat” for residents.

“Everyone is invited to come see how we have cared for and maintained the beautiful old church building that, for more than a century, has given so much to the town,” she said.

“It’s also a thank you to those immediate neighbours who may have been curious as to the comings and goings of tradies, but graciously permitted us to have extra vehicles in the streets around the church.

“Enter the church to find a few people waiting to share history and stories with you.

“If you need it, an opportunity to light a candle and just sit in the sacred space to remember your own experiences of God or to reflect on the life of someone you may have lost.”

A free Devonshire morning tea will be offered in the church hall, with other activities available to people of all ages.

The activities will be held from 10.30am to 1pm, which also includes the blessing ceremony.

“Age appropriate crafts led by our friendly folk, face painting, a groomer to advise and cut some dog nails, a raffle to raise funds for the RSPCA, and a pony to pat and groom,” Rev. Castle said.

“There’s also a memorial tent to take names of furry friends who crossed over that rainbow bridge, and a sausage sizzle for lunch.

“A memorial service is offered on the day for those grieving and a judging panel on hand for the ‘Showing Off’ competition.

“It comes to an end with a chorus from the dog choir and a $3 barbecued sausage.”

Rev. Castle said “all God’s creatures” would be welcomed to be blessed.

“Dogs will receive a “I am blessed” bandanna and all other animals a certificate,” she said.

“No doubt many will want to find where the pets will be blessed; be assured you will be ushered into that space.

“The property will have a friendly welcoming team to direct you to the areas you want to go.”
