Children from the Banana Splits Childcare Centre visited the Camperdown Country Fire Authority (CFA) Station for a tour of the vehicles of Camperdown Police, Camperdown CFA, Camperdown State Emergency Services (SES) and Camperdown’s paramedics.

Banana Splits Childcare centre director Skye Hargreaves said the visit was part of the centre’s National Children’s Week celebrations, which is marked around the fourth Wednesday in October.

“We like to put an emphasis about teaching children about the community and giving them new experiences,” she said.

“I spoke to Georgie Gretten – she’s a parent of the daycare centre as well as a paramedic and a member of the Camperdown CFA – and she got in touch with everyone else.

“The kids are absolutely loving it.

“A lot of them haven’t been on an excursion before, so just to come on a short one next door is really good for them.

“They’re absolutely loving all the trucks, lights, sirens and people.”

Among the highlights of the day were being able to use the CFA tanker’s hose under the watchful eye of Georgie Gretten, seeing the various tools used by the SES during emergencies, turning on the lights and sirens of the vehicles, and even hopping into the back of a paddy wagon.

Ms Hargreaves said the children enjoyed being able to interact with the people who keep their community safe.

“I’d just like to thank all the emergency services for bringing this together for us,” she said.
