Upgrades to be unveiled at the first race of 2025
THE Terang and District Racing Club will unveil its newly improved surface at the Terang Racecourse when the New Year’s Day races return.

The Terang and District Co-op Kids Day Out races will bring a bumper day of racing action to Terang Racecourse on Wednesday, January 1 as the first major event for the town in 2025.
Terang and District Racing Club president Shane Scally said the six-race program will be the first racing at the track since the club made a significant investment in upgrading the drainage at the track’s surface in recent months.
The club was tasked with the laborious task of taking down the running rails to dig subtle slits every few meters across the entirety of the track and completing trackside drainage, protecting the surface to ensure smooth running of events.
In addition, the club also undertook minor works, such as revitalising some of the concrete areas which had become uneven.
“We’ve had track renovations which were funded by the Victorians State Government, Racing Victoria and the Terang and District Racing Club,” Mr Scally said.
“The work was completed over six weeks, which required the running rails to be removed to complete.
“The track was re-sown after the sand shifting and watered regularly.
“It was a huge task to do all this work.”
Mr Scally said the committee was excited to have completed the works ahead of what is predicted to be a great day of racing on New Year’s Day.
“The races are a traditional meeting dating back to the very early years of the club, with the main race being the 1125 metre Peter Blank Sprint,” he said.
“It’s always a great family day, especially for the kids.
“Every year we see people making a day of it to catch up with family and friends after Christmas.”
Gates will open from 11.30am with general admission tickets from just $20 per person, and umbrella packages from $250 per person.
