Service increase: The Victorian Government has announced additional weekend V/Line services will run on the Warrnambool Line from mid-April.

The Warrnambool line was named among a widespread boost in train frequency across the regional V/Line network, which includes 50 new or extended services on the Ballarat, Ararat and Bendigo lines.

The additional weekend services will begin from Monday, April 14 with four extra weekend services on the Warrnambool Line.

This includes new return services on Saturdays and Sundays, adding to the extra services rolled out late last year.

The increase will see the Warrnambool line have five daily weekend return services.

Premier Jacinta Allan joined Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams this month to announce the new

V/Line timetable, in what the State Government hopes will make weekend shopping, dining and trips to the footy easier for passengers on some of Victoria’s busiest regional train lines.

Mrs Allan said regional lines had been busier than ever following the introduction of the regional fare cap.

“We made regional travel more affordable for Victorian families through the regional fare cap and now we’re delivering more services to four regional rail lines,” she said.

Ms Williams said the introduction of additional services will be among the latest progressions following years of upgrade works which have allowed modern VLocity trains to operate on the Warrnambool Line for the first time.

“More regional Victorians are choosing to take public transport than ever before thanks to our cheaper fares policy,” she said.

“We’re catering to this extra demand with more trains, more often.”

Two Geelong line trains will also be extended through to Waurn Ponds Station every weekday morning, giving passengers in Waurn Ponds more travel options.

These additions will deliver almost 150 of the 200 extra weekend services which the Labor Government had promised at the 2022 election.

Almost 40 million train and coach trips have been taken on the V/Line network, and more than $114 million saved by passengers, since the fare cap was introduced in March 2023.
