The unit was able to purchase the vehicle thanks to funding from the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) in the 2024-2025 financial year, where the unit received $101,433.75 of funding.

Unit controller Tom Brett said the SES unit was excited to replace its previous vehicle.

“We’re happy with it, and it’s an improvement on the old one,” he said.

“It was a 2014 model, so it was 10 years old and reaching the end of its service life.

“This one is kitted out a lot better in the back with a lot more shelving.

“Instead of everything just being thrown in the back, there are shelves for everything.

“It’s a big thank you to the VESEP grant program, which includes community-raised funds and state funding, for making the purchase of this vehicle possible.”

The new vehicle will be used for storm jobs and for towing the unit’s storm and light trailers to incidents in the Lismore area.

Mr Brett said the unit was always looking for people to sign up and help their community.

“We ran a successful recruitment plan last year, and we’re always looking for people who want to help out,” he said.

Training days are held on the first and third Monday of every month from 7.30pm at 7 Ferrers St, Lismore for those interested in signing up.
