Veteran golfers enjoy Mortlake stableford

A GROUP of 48 Corangamite veteran golfers enjoyed a stableford competition at the Mortlake course earlier this month.

The players competed in two grades on Tuesday, April 8.

President Graham thanked all members who had made the trip to Mortlake and made special mention of how well the course was presented.

“The condition of the course was a real credit to the club, having watered greens, tees and fairways which allowed them to present the course in a really good condition,” he said.

Results from the competition were as follows:

A grade – winner Trevor Gardner (Cobden) 35 points on countback from Carl Horan (Cobden) 35 and Don Witham (Colac) 34.

NAGA was John Eccles (East Framlingham).

B grade – winner Bruce Twaddle (Mortlake) 38 on countback from Terry Coolahan (Terang) 38, with Peter Collihole (Birregurra) third on 34.

NAGA was Cliff Cobbledick (Cobden).

The next event will be held at the Timboon Golf Club on Tuesday, April 22 followed by the Victorian Veterans Golfers’ Association Country Championships at the Colac club on May 5 and 6.

Entries can be placed online at www.vvga.org.au/vvga-events but are filling fast.

Anyone wishing to play veterans golf is encouraged to speak with your club’s Corangamite Veterans’ Golf Association liaison officer.

To register, players must be over the age of 55, have a Golf Australia registered handicap and complete a membership form (with application fee).
