Veterans return to golf
AFTER a six-week break, Corangamite’s veteran golfers recently returned to the fairways.
The break was taken due to the winter draw and wet course.
Prior to heading out on the Winchelsea course, president Graham asked for a minute’s silence to remember two past veterans who recently passed away – Tom Evans (June 20) and Bill Hoggard (July 5).
Results from the day:
A grade – winner Trevor Gardner (Cobden) on 35, runner-up Steven Preston (Colac) 34, third Keith Baker (Camperdown) 33 on countback. NAGA Camperdown’s Andrew Burrows.
B grade – winner Peter Theodore (Colac) 32, runner-up Elizabeth Alston (Winchelsea) 32, third Colin Venn (Terang) 30. NAGA Colac’s Jack Lenahan.
Nearest the pins: 2nd and 11th Elizabeth Alston (Winchelsea), 6th and 15th Peter Kerr (Colac), 8th and 17th Peter Devine (Colac).
Graham thanked all players, along with the Winchelsea club for its course and volunteers for catering on the day.
In coming weeks golfers will contest challenges against Geelong (Monday, September 13 at Angelsea) and against Ballarat (Monday, October 19 at Colac).
Anyone interested in playing is encouraged to attend.
