Vintage rally returns

VINTAGE machinery enthusiasts are polishing up their old farming machinery in anticipation for the fifth annual Vintage Machinery Display and Vintage Tractor Pull Weekend in Lismore.

The Lismore Showgrounds on Seymour Street will come alive with machinery on Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1 for two days of interactive displays and workshops.

Western Plains Machinery Preservation Group Inc. member Stephen Ringe said this year will see a large array of things to see and do over the two days.

“This year we’ve got feature brands – Massey Ferguson and Massey Harris – so we’re hoping to get as many tractors and pieces of machinery made by those manufacturers as possible,” he said.

“We’ll have working displays of hay-baling and charm-cutting, as well as sheep shearing.

“We’ve got our usual Australian tools and kitchenware display, the Derrinallum Lismore Historical Group, model trains and our tractor pull.

“Food stalls are available, and kids can enter for free.

“There will also be classic cars and trucks on display.”

Other attractions will include a rope-making workshop, displays from the collections of group members, working stationary engine displays and children’s activities.

Mr Ringe said entry for exhibitors and contestants is free, with gate prices at $5 per person.

“We’re hoping to have as many people there as possible, and an enjoyable day of celebrating Australian agricultural history,” he said.

Gates will open from 9am-4pm on the Saturday, and 9am-2pm on the Sunday.
