V/LINE performance on the Warrnambool line narrowly missed punctuality and reliability targets as services on the line continue to track among the best on the network.

Services on the Warrnambool line were delivered on-time on 90.8 per cent of occasions, slipping short of the 92 per cent punctuality target while 94.8 per cent for reliability in March, below the target of 96 per cent of services delivered.

A V/Line spokesperson said while the performance figures fell short of the results recorded during February, the March results equate to just 12 cancellations and 19 late trains for the month.

A series of unrelated train faults led to five cancellations and two delays, with no other incident or issue affecting a large number of services.

The Warrnambool line continues to be one of the most consistently high performing lines for punctuality on the V/Line network, with 93.1 per cent of services arriving at their destination on time over the past twelve months.

“We continued to deliver safe and reliable train services for passengers along the Warrnambool line throughout March,” a V/Line spokesperson said.

Signalling improvements between Waurn Ponds and Warncoort have been completed as part of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade, with more than 64km of new signalling cable installed.

Those upgrades will be commissioned in the middle of 2022.

Signalling upgrades will also be undertaken between Warncoort and Warrnambool later this year.

“Works are underway on the Warrnambool Line to deliver more services for passengers and improve reliability for the growing communities in the state’s south west,” a V/Line spokesperson said.

“We encourage passengers to check the website for the latest information when planning a trip.”
