Vogels effective with the ball

SIMPSON had the bye in round 11 of the Colac-South West premier cricket competition and will return this week with a game against Birregurra at Birregurra.


In division two, Simpson had a 58 run win over Carlisle River in the match that was relocated to the Pirron Yallock Recreation Reserve.

Batting first, the Tigers made 7/204 from their 40 overs.

Opener Joe Cain top scored with 57 from 65 balls, hitting five boundaries.

Fellow opener BradeyFratantaro made a patient 33 from 72 balls, with Phil Vines scoring 26.

In reply, Carlisle River was bowled out for 146 in the final over.

Junior player Ben Vogels led the bowling with 3/26 from seven overs, with new ball bowler Shaun Baines taking 2/29 from eight in the win.

This week the division two Tigers play Alvie at Alvie.

In division three, Simpson had a 92 run loss to Colac at the Simpson Recreation Reserve.

Colac batted first and was bowled out for 140 in 28.1 overs.

Noah Deppeler with 4/16 from 6.1 overs and Owen Leighton with 3/28 from eight led the Tigers’ attack.

In reply, Simpson crumbled to be all out in 14.3 overs for just 48, at one stage being 8/13.

Leighton was the only player to reach double figures with 26 from 32 balls.

This week the division three Tigers face another tough game when they host Lorne at Simpson.

Simpson’s women didn’t play on the weekend, with Carlisle River forfeiting the fixture.

This week the second placed Tigers women face third placed Birregurra at Birregurra.

In the under 14 boys match at Pirron Yallock last Friday night, Simpson was defeated by Stoneyford.

Batting first, the junior Tigers made 7/70 from their 30 overs with Fin Mahoney top scoring with 12.

Stoneyford replied with 5/173 from its 30 overs, Jordan Beecher the best of the Simpson bowlers with 3/4 from three overs.

This Friday night in the under 14s, Simpson will face Birregurra at Birregurra.
