Volleyball finals approach
WITH the home and away rounds of Corangamite volleyball now done, the A and B grade finals will be keenly contested.
Bulls have clearly been the superior team during the season but Poachers and NOBTS at full strength have the ability and experience to match them in pressure situations.
The round nine match between Bulls and NOBTS produced a 3-0 result in the Bulls favour but all sets went down to the wire, 12-10, 11-9 and 11-9.
Stallions will need to turn up with their best skills to trouble the three other A grade sides.
Ballbusters pinched their last round match against Poachers, who lost the first game 14-16 and won the second 11-6 but couldn’t maintain their rage in the third.
Ballbusters ran away with an 11-5 result and the Poachers were left licking their wounds.
This will stand Ballbusters in good stead on finals night when they play Slugs in the preliminary final to decide who takes on Pirates for the B grade title.
Round nine results:
Ballbusters def Poachers 2-1, Bulls def Slugs 5-0, Poachers def Pirates 5-0, NOBTS def Stallions 3-0, Pirates def Stallions 3-0, Ballbusters drew Slugs 2-2 and Bulls def NOBTS 3-0.
Ladder after June 18 – Bulls 64, NOBTS 52, Poachers 50, Stallions 28, Pirates 22, Ballbusters 20, Slugs 16.
