Warm conditions for little aths
WEEK three of Camperdown Little Athletics saw competitors return to the track last Friday after the less than ideal weather the previous week.
WEEK three of Camperdown Little Athletics saw competitors return to the track last Friday after the less than ideal weather the previous week.
It was a warm night, with sunscreen and sun hats the necessity of the night.
The centre thanks Coles for its existing sponsored gazebo, it was put to good use.
Close to 100 athletes were run through five events, for some this was their first try, others are seasoned long term athletes who again showed their determination and one even broke centre records.
It is always great to see the younger cohort learning new techniques and having fun with new friends.
There were many happy smiles and lots of fun and laughter.
It was fantastic to hear parents supporting all athletes in their achievements, and cheering on some of the children as they struggled with events in the heat.
Little athletics is about bettering your own achievements, not the first second or third (or even last) place.
It’s encouraging to see all parents and athletes cheering on their fellow centre athletes to be better, do better and most of all to have fun.
The committee thanks parents who have put their hand up to go outside their comfort zones to support the events - kids love to see their parents involved and everyone enjoys the night moving quickly and easily with extra hands on deck.
With the first high jump of the year taking place last Friday, the night did run late for some groups.
Thank you to families for their patience while the committee learns the best way to ensure your children are safe and learning in the best environment, while still trying to get everyone home at a decent time.
Thank you to the parents that stayed back to help pack up and also to the parents who supported the canteen.
The centre has funds from canteen sales this year already earmarked for new and exciting equipment purchases.
It was great to see all athletes promoting the business’ who have so kindly supported the centre.
The new, locally sponsored club uniforms looked fantastic.
Any families who still need to collect uniforms are asked to contact Kristy to organise a time for collection.
For those who have completed their two weeks trialling, members hope they enjoyed their time at the centre.
During the week those families should receive information on how to convert their membership to fully financial and information on how to obtain their club shirt and Comm Bank name patch.
For any families that are still interested in relays can you please get in touch ASAP.
This event is being held locally in Warrnambool this year and its hoped many athletes from the Camperdown centre will try out the new synthetic track at Warrnambool on November 19.
On Monday training is held at the Camperdown College sports precinct track at 4:30pm with Kathy.
It is expected that there will be some relay training. Please come dressed in club uniform and black shorts (all weather possibilities please) if we’re required a change to the stadium this will be communicated through our social media platforms.
Next week we will be back at the track Friday at 4.15pm for a 4.30pm start.
