Warm weather fails to stop vintage tractors
DESPITE poor weather putting off most activities on the Saturday, the Western Plains Machinery Preservation Group has reported another successful Vintage Machinery Display and Vintage Tractor Pull last month.
A large variety of vintage tractors, farm machinery, cars and trucks were on display with antiquarians able to get up close with the past.
Western Plains Machinery Preservation Group Inc member Stephen Ringe said Saturday February 22 being a Total Fire Ban day, with temperatures rising to around 39 degrees on the day, caused all demonstrations on that day to be cancelled.
“There were plenty of other things going on to keep people amused, but numbers waned off pretty quickly after lunch when it got very hot and windy,” he said.
“Sunday was a much better day, and we made up for crowd numbers for both days.
“We had similar sort of numbers that we’ve had in previous years.
“We had a good attendance of tractors for the rally from local and other neighbouring clubs, and then we had a bit of support from Bellarine Machinery Club – they bought along a draft cutter and a little tractors to drive it.
“We had sheep shearing and kids’ activities – traditional old-style games like quoits, hooky and a little hole-in-one course.”
Other exhibitors included the Lismore Country Fire Authority (CFA) brigade and the Derrinallum and Lismore Community Association History Group, who also reported success with the sale of a variety of history books.
