Warren wins tribute in honour of mate
DIXIE’S Brad Warren closed Mortlake Speedway Club’s season in style last Saturday night.

DIXIE’S Brad Warren closed Mortlake Speedway Club’s season in style last Saturday night.
Warren took out the Street Stock ‘Hanna Tribute’ race in memory of Brendan Hannabury at Mid Western Speedway.
After three rounds of qualifiers, a 12-lap right hand down then a 12-lap lap left hand down split feature race was conducted, with feature emotionally charged for a handful of drivers competing in memory of Hannabury.
Warren, who had been close to winning previously, got a great start on lap one to lead early with Shane Ardley following him into second spot ahead of Nelson.
When the first 12 laps were finished Warren remained ahead of Ardley, Nelson, Ahearn, Ricky Throckmorton and Paul Domburg, with the leader’s stranglehold on the event tightening when Nelson pulled in-field with a broken car early in the second feature.
The race continued to be a close affair, but as the chequered flag was unfurled, it was Warren still in front, with the winner hollering and fist pumping as he claimed ‘Hanno Tribute’, from Ardley, Ahearn, Domburg and Throckmorton.
After the race Warren paid tribute to his mates’ family and the Mortlake club for holding the event and shared an important reminder to all.
“Well done to the Hannabury family and Morris Ahearn for the organisation of the event, thank you to Mortlake club for the support of the race and well done to the podium results to Shane, Morris, Paul and Ricky,” he said.
“We do not want to have more tribute races, there is always somebody you can speak to.
“Call me, call somebody, if you are struggling.”
In the other feature event of the night, Hamilton’s Chris Ansell won the Stoney Point 500 for Wingless Sprints.
Ansell won two of the four qualifiers to line-up at the front of the field in the feature race.
He led Alex Thomson, Greg Bishop, Steven Hateley and Jeremy Pearson on lap one of the final, and following a caution on lap two, 18 straight laps were run with Ansell leading the way.
He held on to claim victory from Bishop, who challenged closely for the last five laps, while Thomson finished in third with Aron Lawrence and Pearson rounding out the top five.
Other events on the night included the Super Rods, which was won by Dane Court, while the Limited Sportman division was abandoned due to safety concerns after two of the three qualifiers.
