Fun and frivolity: Ian Urquhart and Keith Stephens went all out to mark the final Tuesday session of Carole Manifold’s water fitness class.

The class, which is held three days each week at the Rodney Grove Community Aquatic Centre in Cobden, saw Ms Manifold donning a Christmas hat to spread the seasonal joy.

She said some attendees, such as Ian Urquhart, Richard Narik and Keith Stephens, had gone “the extra mile” with some wildly creative costumes from Jokers Fancy Dress.

“Boy did they ever – they had tutus on, red and green, headgear and all the rest of it,” Ms Manifold said.

“It was a wonderful day with 35 attendees, some of them with their Christmas hats on.

“Richard – he’s the highlight of the day.

“He’s got a beautiful singing voice, and I turn the music down when he starts singing and they all clap and cheer.

“They all love him there.”

The gentle water fitness classes see people from Lismore, Derrinallum, Cobden, Terang and further afield with a variety of issues, including knee, hip and shoulder issues, joining together to enjoy some light aerobic exercise in the water.

Ms Manifold said the sessions had proved popular again this year as attendees were seeing the health benefits.

“There’s so many who say they come just to get warm, and to meet so-and-so,” she said.

“We are so lucky to have that pool because rain, hail or shine, we do the classes there.

“It’s so good.”

The classes will pause over the Christmas holidays, opening up to coincide with the start of the new school term in 2025 on January 28.
