In Camperdown, a service will be held from 10.45am at the War Memorial in Manifold Street, opposite the Camperdown Bakery.

Camperdown RSL sub-branch acting president Chris Fairbank said this year’s event would be emotional as it is the first Remembrance Day event since previous president Kevin Murray died in September.

“It’s about commemorating Kevin Murray’s service, and remembering those who served in World War I from the Camperdown district,” he said.

“This year I’m remembering my great-great uncle Trooper Jack Hay of the 8th Light Horse A Squadron.

“He was in the first wave at the Battle of the Neck on August 7, 1915 at Lone Pine.

“He was wiped out and his body was never found, meaning he is known under God.

“There’s around 3000 people who died where their bodies were never found, so they are known under God.”

Derrinallum and Lismore will also hold their annual service on November 11, with this year’s service being held at the Lismore cenotaph along High Street.

Residents are encouraged to gather at 10.40am for a 10.45am start.

“It’s imperative in this day and age, when the attacks on Australia and the Australian flag are becoming more apparent, that we raise and honour the flag and the veterans,” Mr Fairbank said.
