Wear bright – stay in sight

POLICE are encouraging those who enjoy an evening or early morning walk to increase their visibility to protect themselves from injury.

Manifold Street in Camperdown features a number of streetlights along the Princes Highway and the Manifold Street service road, but many residential streets are not equipped with lighting.

Camperdown Police Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Raven said he was aware of instances in the past where pedestrians have been injured while walking, particularly as the sun sets or rises.

“We’re coming into the winter months and it gets dark early in the morning, so it’s important to be visible to road users,” he said.

“Walkers should have a night light or wear something reflective so drivers can see them and reduce their risk of injury.

“I walk to work early in the morning, and people do wear nightlights – I think it’s a big help, especially when driving at night.”

Pedestrians are recommended to wear bright clothing such as fluorescent safety vests when out walking.
