Weerite Hall seeks new committee

THE Weerite Public Hall is seeking a new committee of management to take the reins as the majority of the current committee looks to step back.

The hall has been a part of the Weerite community for over 60 years, with many activities held over its history.

Retiring president Barb Boyd said she was hoping to see residents put their hands up to look after the hall for the next three years and even beyond.

“The hall’s history has seen many Hampden Tennis Association presentation nights as well as the Hall Anniversary Broadcast Bulls attended by Miss Victoria pageant winners,” she said.

“Weerite Primary School concerts and talent quests saw the hall packed out, and cabarets and kitchen teas were a common occurrence.

“Senior and junior tennis and table tennis were held weekly.

“Card nights were a regular fundraiser many years ago.”

“CFA community information days, training sessions and community lunches that locals shared were enjoyed with lots of catch-up chatter.”

Mrs Boyd encouraged anyone interested to attend a special meeting to be held at the hall on Thursday, February 12 at 7.30pm.

“As the farming community has aged and spread out, the current committee members are handing in their keys after many years of service,” she said.

“The vacancies are there for any interested people to nominate and join the new committee of management for the next three years to care for the hall and its surrounds.”

Corangamite Shire Council deputy mayor Laurie Hickey will chair the meeting, which will be held at 14 Lenehans Lane, Weerite.
