Weller wins Open championship

DONNA Weller has been named the 2024 Open Champion for the Timboon Golf Club – her 16th championship win.

Playing off a handicap of eight, Donna played three fantastic rounds, with the final round played last Wednesday, November 20.

She finished with a total gross score of 238 to win the championship.

Judy Walsh (12) also played three great rounds and was runner-up with a total of 253 strokes.

Congratulations Donna on your 16th win, spanning 1991-2024.

B grade was a closely fought tussle with some exceptional scores over the three rounds.

Congratulations to Maureen Clements (24) who played well below her handicap for all three rounds to claim the B grade championship with a total gross score of 284.

Also playing great golf, well under her handicap for all three rounds, was runner-up Andrea Thompson (27) with a total gross of 291.

Congratulations to Susanne Wallace who won the C grade championship.

Susanne, playing off a 33 handicap, played great golf to score a total gross score of 325. Runner-up was Biddy Weel.

Congratulations to all the 2024 champions.

Andrea Thompson, playing off a 27 handicap, won the overall nett prize, kindly donated by Michelle Gristede, for the three rounds of the championships with nett 209.

Runner-up was Lynne Newton (16) with nett 211.

Lynne Newton won the putting prize, kindly donated by Dawn Wallace, for the least number of putts for the three rounds of the Championships.

Lynne had 86 putts on a countback from runner-up Donna Weller (8) who also had 86 putts.

The daily winner fromlast Wednesday, November 20 was Maureen Clements 89-23-66, with Lynne Newton the runner-upon 85-16-69.

Ball down the line: Andrea Thompson 97-27-70.

Nearest the pin: 5th and 10th Maureen Clements, Nutrien 13th Judith Wallace and the longest putt on the 14th went to Lynne Newton.

Last Saturday members played stroke for the fourth and final round of the Timboon championships.

Alistair Gillin carded 303 for the four rounds to take the win.

In the daily competition, division one was won by Rodney Edge with nett 67 from John Bertram with nett 68.

Third place went to Phillip Brown with nett 69.

Division two was won by Rhys Ziegelaar on a countback from Mick Smith, with both players on nett 69.

Third place went to Franny Togni with nett 71.

Nearest the pins on Saturday were: 5th Percy Gillin, 7th Rodney Edge, 10th Bill Finlayson and 14th Jeff Costin.

The Nutrien ball on the 11th was won by Alistair Gillin and the South West Car Care ball on the 13th went to Mick Plozza.

Congratulations to the 2024 Timboon grade champions.

A grade – Alistair Gillin 303, Peter Cashmore 328.

B grade – Chris Huffadine 339, Geoff Norton 344.

C grade – John Bertram 359, Mark McKenzie 364.

D grade – Franny Togni 397, Rohan Johns 404.

This Saturday, November 30, will be the Brandt Terang three-person ambrose.
