Wet day for Pies
CAMPERDOWN senior coach Neville Swayn is confident his side will “gradually improve” as the season progresses.

CAMPERDOWN senior coach Neville Swayn is confident his side will “gradually improve” as the season progresses.
Reflecting on the Magpies’ 75-point round two loss to South Warrnambool last weekend, Swayn remains optimistic his charges are making “small steps.”
“We came up against a quality side in South on Saturday but I’m really happy with how the boys went,” he said.
“We didn’t score in the last quarter but if you take that out, there was a lot of positives we can take from the game.
“It was a good effort in terrible conditions; there was heavy rain all day which made the going tough.”
Swayn made particular mention of the back six, along with Hamish and Zach Sinnott who “played well through the midfield”.
“Every week we’re making small steps to our game and we just keep working at it. We’ve always had the mindset we’ll gradually improve as the year goes on and I believe we’re on the right track,” he said.
Final scores on Saturday were Camperdown 2.5.17 to South Warrnambool 13.14.92.
Riley Arnold, William Rowbottom, Brendan Richardson, Sidney Bradshaw and Archie McBean were listed amongst the Magpies best.
James O’Neil was the only goal kicker for the home side.
Camperdown’s reserves also had a tough day out, going down by 125 points to the in-form Roosters, 1.2.8 to 20.13.133.
Xavier O’Connor kicked a goal for the home side and was named among the best, along with Nelson Loader, Shane Morgan, Nick Castle and Ethan Coates.
Earlier in the day, Camperdown’s under 18.5 side found the going down against the visitors, going down 2.7.19 to 12.14.86.
Wilba Cheeseman, Solly Mahony, Jony Lafferty, Mitchell Mahony, Eddie Baker and Wil Absalom were among the best for the Magpies.
Goal kickers included Jonty Lafferty and Tarkyn Love.
The netball courts also brought no success for the Magpies, with defeats in all senior and junior games played.
