SATURDAY afternoon rain put paid to any results in the three senior Noorat Terang Cricket Club matches, with drawn results occurring.

The division one Lions batted first against Allansford-Panmure and were steady at 4-117 before collapsing to be all out for 137 in the 44th over (of a possible 45).

Captain Bailey Kavenagh led the way with 48 off 123 balls.

Kavenagh was looking comfortable, it was only the quest to up the run rate that cost him his wicket.

Tyson Hay, with 22 off 31 balls, and Ryan Mottram, who scored16 off 25, were the other main contributors.

Heading out after the tea break with rain falling, the home side made a play to score quick runs and were 1-37 off five overs when rain eventually ended the game.

Tim Delaney captured the only wicket to fall.

Two-day games in the premier division commence this weekend.

After playing the current top three sides and last season’s premiers so far, last season’s runners-up Russells Creek will be their opponent this weekend.

The division two Lions played at home on the Terang Turf against West Warrnambool who batted first.

The Lions bowlers were unable to make any use of the new turf wicket, with a wicket that fell on a no-ball summing up the bowling on the day.

Charlie Scanlon bowled well without luck, while Martin Wynd was the chief wicket taker with 3-21, which included two stumpings by Liam Venn.

Jack McConnell also contributed with two wickets.

The bowlers bowled 14 wides and five no balls, contributing to West Warrnambool’s total of 6-163.

The Lions commenced batting in failing light and with rain starting to fall, they lost two wickets in the opening over and were2-6 after four overs when rain caused the game to be abandoned.

This weekend the division two team returns to the hard wicket at Noorat to play the Northern Raiders.

Noorat Terang’s division four team was in the strongest position of the three senior sides, restricting Spring Creek to 8-98 off 40overs.

This side featured four players playing with their children.

John Clarke with Lucia and Ollie, Mark Lillico with Sam, Tom Conheady with Noah and Dean Abbott with Ned.

In Ollie Clarke’s first senior game his first senior wicket was taken when father John held the catch.

Ollie finished with 2-11 from six overs.

Lucia Clarke opened the bowling and finished with 1-6 from six.

Dean Abbott took 2-6 from seven overs and Jack Kenna 2-20.

Rain fell during the tea break and the Lions were unable to bat due to the wet conditions.

This weekend in division four Noorat Terang travel to Brierly to take on Warrnambool.

The under 15s were unable to defend their 119 against Nestles, who batted their 45 overs to make 9-234.

Harry Beaton had the best figures with 2-19, Ollie Clarke 2-26 with single wickets to Lucia Clarke,Liam Kenna, Ned Abbott and Riley McIntosh.

This Friday sees the U15s start a two-day match against Mortlake at the Mortlake College ground.

The under 17s lost to Dennington, who chased down the Lion’s total of 145.

Dennington made 7-208 on the back of 66 extras of which 53 were wides and no-balls.

Jack Farrell was the best of the bowlers taking 3-39.

Single wicket takers were Lachlan Primmer, Liam Kenna, Ollie Clarke and Caleb Bamford.

The under 17s next game starts on Tuesday against Merrivale in Warrnambool.

The under 13s, who have combined with Mortlake, start this afternoon with a match against Nestles in Warrnambool,then having a two-day game starting on Saturday at Noorat against Russells Creek.
