White leads over 60s
MORTLAKE White now sits on top of the over 60s social pennant ladder.
Round 10 pennant results were outstanding for the Mortlake over 60s players.
In round 10 Mortlake White defeated Mortlake Blue 41-38.
Prior to the Christmas break, three players from Mortlake contested the WDPA men’s singles championship.
Les Johnson, Dave McNicoll and Kevin Johnson all performed well.
After winning their section games, Les and Dave moved into the finals but unfortunately for Kevin he could only secure one win.
Both Les and Dave had byes in the first round, putting them straight into the quarter finals.
Les met Timboon’s Arthur Finch but was defeated, ending his journey.
Dave faced Colin Davey (City) and then progressed through to the semi-finals where, after a tight match, he was beaten by Koroit’s Scott Boschen 24-25.
In the grand final, Scott Boschen defeated Arthur Finch to take the title.
Midweek pennant and the over 60s social bowls resumed last Tuesday for the new year.
In round 11 of midweek pennant, Mortlake 1 Purple (div 3) lost to Lawn Tennis 2 Blue 34-39 (away).
George Draffen def Bryan McLeod 22-15 and Dianne Robertson lost to Barry Crispe 12-24.
Next week’s match will be against City 8 Jade at home.

In round 11 over 60s social pennant, Mortlake White defeated Camperdown 47-39 at home and Mortlake Blue defeated Timboon 47-20.
White retains top spot on 85 points, followed by Mortlake Blue on 79 and Timboon in third on 60.
Fourth place is Camperdown, just two points behind Timboon.
Next week Mortlake Blue will face Cobden Black away and Mortlake White will play Timboon at home.
In weekend pennant, bowls will resume this weekend - for teams please see the selection board.
Mortlake 1 Blue (div 1) will play Warrnambool 2 Blue (away).
Mortlake 2 White (div 2) will face Koroit 2 Saints (away).
With division one sitting in third place and only eight points behind ladder leaders Portland 1 Makos, the next few rounds will be crucial to finals chances.
In divisions two and four, both sides are currently sitting in fourth place and still have a chance to make finals but again, the next few rounds will decide their fate.
