TREES, debris and even flying trampolines were strewn across the south west last week after wild weather lashed the region.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology just 10mm of rain was experienced in Terang and 9.6mm in Mortlake but high winds wrought havoc on trees and properties with consistent strong gusts experienced overnight on Friday, September 8.
Winds of up to 86km/h hit Terang between 6am and midday in Terang, leaving a trail of damage.
In Mortlake gusts of up to 82km/h were felt over the same period.
A number of incidents were reported throughout Mortlake and Woorndoo, including a number of large tress snapped and damage to the signage of Mortlake Roadhouse.
On Friday morning local SES units attended dozens of callouts, including 19 requests for assistance in Terang, three in Panmure and one in Boorcan over a six-hour period.
Widespread power outages also impacted the region.
A Powercor spokesperson said Terang was among the hardest hit areas for power outages.
“Terang and the broader south west were among the hardest hit areas due to extreme weather on Friday,” the spokesperson said.
“Some customers within the Terang area were without power into Saturday morning, with the majority of customers back on supply on Friday evening.
“We thank the community in Terang and surrounds for their patience as our crews worked to restore power safely.”
