LET there be light.
Cobden and district locals will start to see works on the new shared path solar lighting project from this month.
The $276,330 project will see 60 solar powered lights installed along the popular Circuit De Savage Walking Trail – which spans four kilometres.
The pole heights range from 3.5 metre to 5.5 metres to maintain clearance to existing overhead powerlines.
Each solar light will be strategically positioned with an innovative and adjustable solar module optimally oriented due-north and tilted upgrades 60 degrees to ensure maximum daily charging input, particularly during the winter months.
The new lights will cover 2.7 kilometres of the trail.
Corangamite Shire Council awarded the project contact to Leadsun earlier this year.
Councillor Jo Beard said the project was scheduled to start this month.
She said the 60 lights will be placed along Bond, Grayland and Neylon streets.
Cr Beard said there may be some disruptions to access of the trail during the works, with the works expected to be completed by October.
“It’s great to see the project finally coming to fruition,” she said.
“It’s certainly been an exciting project to be a part of.
“It’s great to see council support the project.”
Cr Beard said the Circuit De Savage Walking Trail was a popular community asset.
“This much-loved community project gets highly utilised by walkers, runners, riders and people on scooters,” she said.
“To have the opportunity to use it in daylight or night is fantastic.”
Cr Beard said the solar lights will be motion activated.
“A lot of detail has gone into the preparation to make sure we achieve the best possibility of capturing the sunlight being mindful of trees and buildings,” she said.
“There’s a lot of excitement in the community about the project.”
