The two existing greens were “pretty much passed their used-by-date,” according to club president Barry Stonehouse and will now be upgraded with sand-filled synthetic surfaces – at a cost of almost $400,000.

“We are only a relatively small club, with about 50 or so members but we’ve worked extremely hard over the past eight or so years to raise around $300,000 towards the cost,” he said.

“We were fortunate to receive a grant of $90,000 from the Corangamite Shire for which we're very appreciative, along with a generous donation of $1000 from the Terang Op Shop.”

Mr Stonehouse believes the current greens were between 15 and 20 years old and were in need of extensive repairs.

“Our second green had a section at one end that was sloping a bit and both surfaces needed some attention. Our members have worked hard over several years to raise the money and are now looking forward to playing on the new greens when work is finished in about a month’s time,” he said.

Mr Stonehouse is confident the new greens will attract even more players to the club, particularly for the social events and corporate bowls.

With the next season set to commence in October, the club will welcome to social players between now and then.

“Once the work is complete we will again host social bowls here on a Friday night and everyone is welcome,” Mr Stonehouse said.

“The synthetic green will allow us to play all-year round which is great. Our barefoot bowls and Corporate Cup are always popular and this season we had 28 teams entered in the corporate competition.”
