Works begin on public toilets

CORANGAMITE Shire Council’s works team will be out and about in Camperdown and Skipton over coming weeks for works on public toilets.

The toilets at Camperdown’s Apex Park will see repair works to the flooring and paintwork of the female and accessible toilet blocks.

Temporary interruptions to the use of these toilets may occur during the works over the next three-four weeks.

During that time, the nearest public toilet is about one kilometre eastwards along Manifold Street, in the Leura Street avenue.

Residents in Skipton can expect to see the works team at Jubilee Park, with a new toilet block scheduled to be constructed later this year.

Council acting director works and services John Kelly said the design was chosen from four options by public consultation at the end of 2024.

“The old toilet block, which is not up to modern expectations, is now closed and is scheduled for demolition next week,” he said.

“The replacement will provide better amenity closer to the recreation area playground, skatepark and tennis courts.

“Construction of the new block is expected to take three-four months.

“During that time, the nearest alternative is just over 300 metres westwards along Montgomery Street, near the intersection of Anderson Street.”

The $230,000 project received $50,000 from the State Government’s Tiny Towns Fund.
