Youth encouraged to unlock inner strength

CORANGAMITE teenagers can unlock their inner strengths through hands-on, interactive arts-based activities at the ‘Illuminate U’ two-day intensive program these school holidays.

By wd-news

Corangamite Shire coordinator community engagement and development Bec Reedman said participants would find their inner drive, values, and decision-making skills – all while having fun.

“Illuminate U is a fun way for shire residents aged 15-18 to learn how they can reach their full potential while connecting and hanging out with others,” she said.

“Hands-on, interactive arts-based activities will give participants game-changing cheat codes to unlock new skills to navigate challenges and power up their potential.”

The program will be delivered by Sally Wood from The Corner Therapy Hub (218 Manifold Street) in Camperdown.

An accredited social worker, Ms Wood is passionate about supporting the wellbeing of the shire’s teenagers and increasing services and programs to the area.

“The program is based on the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is about accepting your thoughts and emotions without letting them control you and taking action towards what truly matters,” Ms Wood said.

“As one participant from the last program said ‘ACT is like a cheat code for life. It helps you face tough thoughts, stay focused on what matters, and keep moving forward, no matter what.”

Illuminate U is funded by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.

The not-for-profit organisation supports community-led solutions that build resilience and long-term viability and vitality of remote, rural, and regional communities.

Bookings for the sessions, which will occur from 10am-3pm on Thursday, April 17 and Friday, April 18, can be made online at trybooking.com/DADYW.
