Expo brings women’s health to forefront
WOMEN’S health was brought to the forefront with a Women’s Health Expo held in Noorat over the weekend.

Terang and Mortlake Health Service (TMHS) hosted the event on Saturday at the Kolora Noorat Football Club Rooms, which TMHS health promotion officer Michelle Dowden hailed as a success.
“The event attracted around fifty local women who came together to celebrate, learn, and connect through a vibrant day of health information, creativity and laughter,” she said.
“The program featured an impressive line-up of guest speakers, including National Idigenous Women’s Health Alliance chief executive officer Wendy Anders and Misha Coleman from the Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer.
“They shared vital updates and insights on women’s health and preventive care.”

Ms Dowden said the highlight of the day was comedian and author Jean Kittson.
“Her performance had the audience in stitches as she shared her trademark humour and witty reflections on women’s health and life experiences,” she said.
“Local women also participated in a range of interactive workshops.
“Georgina Conheady led a superb hat-making session.
“Jo Ludbrook shared the fascinating story behind the Women’s Tartan while Frances Bryant inspired movement and joy with a lively belly dancing workshop.
“The talented Rosie Knight and Michelle McKinnon from the Terang Theatre Troupe provided delightful entertainment throughout the day.”

Ms Dowden said the event provided an opportunity for connection while also bringing awareness to a subject which was often sorely lacking in regional areas.
“The friendly sponge-making competition was fiercely contested by all, with first prize awarded to Rosemary Muir from Mortlake, and second prize shared by Marjorie and Mary from Mount View Aged Care,” she said.
“Overall, the expo was a wonderful success.
“It was a day of laughter, learning and community spirit that celebrated women’s health, creativity and connection across the Terang and Mortlake region.”
