Highest achievement
THE Noorat Scouts have continued the build on recent success with two more Cubs earning the highest award in their section.

Stevie Henderson and Daniel Warner this week became the latest Cub Scouts to earn their Grey Wolf Awards after planning and leading a hike at the end of last year.
The milestone left Noorat Scouts group leader Rob Rowe beaming with confidence the program was on the right track, after helping to guide a number of members to the highest achievements they can earn.
“They finished the award late last year with a hike which they planned and coordinated,” he said.
“It’s a massive achievement for a Cub Scout to earn, to obtain the highest award, so they will now go on to the Scout section and continue on their journey.
“We are so proud of this because it tells us the program is working.
“It tells us what Noorat is doing is effective because last year we had three Australia Scout Awards and two Grey Wolf Awards, which is an amazing achievement for such a small community and such a small group.
“It’s something that should be celebrated – we’re all so proud of these kids.”
Stevie, 11, said the hike required to earn the award required plenty of planning and preparation.
“We planned the hike to go for ten kilometres over four hours,” she said.
“We went through the Glenfyne Rail Trail to the Timboon Fine Ice-Cream.

“We did a risk assessment, planned the things we would need to take to accommodate for the people who were coming.”
Daniel said while there was a lot of work involved, there was also plenty of fun – especially at the end when they received a special treat for a job well done.
“I had so much fun,” he said.
“Even just planning our assessment like where we were going, what time we were starting and ending, and all that stuff.
“My favourite part was getting to the end and Rob got us ice-cream.”
The Cub scouts acknowledged feeling happy and proud of themselves for earning the peak award, which was presented on Monday evening with cake for all to enjoy.
“I love all the activities we do,” Daniel said.
Stevie agreed, saying the opportunity to get outdoors and be active was her favourite part of scouting.
“We get to go on a lot of camps and have fun,” she said.
The Noorat Scouts have invited any kids around the age of 7-11 who are interested in trying their hand at scouting, with the first month available free for trail.
