Old Collegians too strong for Power
KOLORA Noorat went down to Old Collegians by 39 points in their round two senior football match on Saturday.
After the Power led by two points at quarter time, Old Collegians took control, running out winners 13.7.85 to 6.10.46 at Davidson Oval.
“They just were a bit too good in the end, we were competitive for a half,” Kolora Noorat coach Shane Scanlon said.
“We had plenty of the play and probably didn’t capitalise, we missed a few goals and things like that, they sort of took it away from us in the third quarter predominantly.”
Several under 18 players doubling up and an injury to captain Fred Beasley hurt the Power’s ability to run out the game.
“A couple of injuries hurt, especially Fred who we didn’t have for the last quarter and a half.
“Then we battled through, we kind of ran out of puff in the end, we had those five lads playing under 18s that played seniors as well, so that probably took its toll in the end.”
Sam Uwland, Ben Carlin, Ted Kenna and Caleb Kavanagh were best for the Power, with Kenna kicking three goals.
“Sam has had a great start, he was really good again.
“Caleb Kavanagh’s another one, he’s so good every week, he’s had a great start as well, he probably gets undervalued a little bit because he is so consistent every week.”
Despite the result, Scanlon took some positives out of the game.
“We’re always disappointed with a loss, but we certainly weren’t demoralised,” he said.
“We were still competitive and particularly for the first half, we were probably on top, we just didn’t quite have the legs to go with them in the end.”
This Saturday the Power take on Allansford, coming off a 316 point win over Dennington, in an ANZAC Day clash at the Noorat Recreation Reserve.
“It’s just a good chance to see how we go against probably what will be the best team in the league I would think.
“It’s looking like good conditions, so we’ll just have a crack and see what happens.”
In the reserves, Old Collegians were completely dominant, running out winners 23.7.145 to 0.1.1.
Ethan McMaster, Craig King and Paul McSween were the Power’s best.
In the under 18.5 game, Kolora Noorat had an 8.7.55 to 4.2.26 win.
William Kenna, Riley Kelly and Fletcher Tolland were best for the Power, with Kai Tonkin kicking four goals.
In the under 13.5 football, Old Collegians won 14.14.98 to no score.
Best for Kolora Noorat were Charlie Simpson, Damon Mason and Charlie Davis.

The A grade netball match saw Old Collegians run out winners 54-37.
Mahni Beasley and May Suhan were best for Kolora Noorat, with Tara Elliott scoring 18 goals.
The A reserve game saw Kolora Noorat score a 27-21 win.
Goal attack Grace Lee scored 19 goals and was named best alongside Jessica Beasley and Zoe James.
In the B grade netball, Old Collegians scored a 32-26 win.
Alexis Ameduri was best for the Power and scored 13 goals, with Meg Kenna and Lucy Eldridge also among the best.
The 17 and under netball saw Old Collegians win 38-12.
Stella Kavenagh, Millicent Black and Millie Castersen were best for Kolora Noorat, with Eliza Beaton scoring 10 goals.
The 15 and under game saw Kolora-Noorat have a 40-4 win.
Ruby Williams, Bella Scanlon and Isla Spokes were the Power’s best, with Skyla Coburn shooting 15 goals and Isla Spokes 14.
The 13 and under netball ended in a 22-all draw.
Best for the Power were Clancey Greene, Indi Blair and Lexi Williams, with Blair shooting a match high 19 goals.
In the 11 and under game, Old Collegians won 18-3.
Best for the Power were Milana Herry, Rosie Selman and Elsie Delaney.
