Power shows depth
KOLORA-Noorat’s senior footballers scored an important 9.11.65 to 7.16.58 win over fifth-placed Old Collegians at Noorat on Saturday.

The Power were massively depleted going in, making 10 changes from the previous match due to injury and unavailability.
“It was talked about a lot, about how we would replace those players, we had a mix of guys come in from both the reserves and the under 18s, plus some good senior players returning,” senior coach Sam Uwland said.
“It was pleasing to show how much depth we have at the club.”
The first quarter was the highest scoring of the game, with the Power kicking five goals to Old Collegians four.
“Old Collegians started well, but then we really took our opportunities in that first quarter with the wind,” Uwland said.
The teams kicked a goal each in the second quarter, with Kolora-Noorat outscoring Old Collegians three goals to one in the third term.
“They set up well in the third quarter, but we got going and got around them and used the wind to our advantage,” Uwland said.
Joel Dillon and Ted Kenna were best for the Power.
“Joel set up everything from defence and was a standout,” Uwland said.
“Ted was lively up forward all day, a real spark for us.”
Nathan Wyss, who made his senior debut, received glowing praise from Uwland.
“Nathan rucked for the entire game, he really stood up for us; a fantastic four quarter effort,” he said.
Jack Aitken played another strong game in defence, but now faces a stint on the sidelines after breaking his arm.
This week the Power travels to Merrivale to take on the top of the ladder Tigers.
“Merrivale is always a good hit-out so we’re looking forward to seeing what we can do against them,” Uwland said.
Old Collegians got the points in the reserves, 7.6.48 to 5.7.37.
Paul McSween, Craig King and Paul Messer were best for Kolora-Noorat, with Messer and Oscar Ritchie kicking two goals each.
Kolora-Noorat had a 6.11.47 to 2.4.16 win in the under 18 football.
Ted Kenna, Leo Beasley and Ben Carlin were best for the Power, with Oscar Ritchie kicking three goals.
Old Collegians were too strong in the under 15 game, scoring an 8.7.55 to 3.10.28 win.
Best for Kolora-Noorat were Eli Chant, Archie Curran and Leo Beasley.
The under 13 game saw Old Collegians score a big 16.14.110 to no score win.
Jack Menz, Crawford Dunn and Tyne Atkinson were best for the Power.
Kolora-Noorat scored a crucial 59-50 win in Saturday’s A grade netball match.
The win puts them level on points with fifth-placed Old Collegians.
“We’re very happy with that win, it was a strong team performance,” Power coach Lillie Bourke said.
“Everyone played their part.”
Teenage goal keeper Nellie Sadler was named as best player for Kolora-Noorat in the win.
“It was another strong defensive game from Nellie, she really made their goalie work hard,” Bourke said.
Molly Bourke also played a big role in the win.
“Molly was dangerous and attacked well all day, she linked well with (goal shooter) Courtney Garner.” Bourke said.
Garner finished with 38 goals, with the coach scoring 21.
“We’re slowly starting to work out how to play together as a unit, our game style keeps developing each week,” Bourke said.
Bourke is looking forward to the match ahead against second-placed Merrivale.
“They’re always hard to beat, those girls have played together for a very long time,” she said.
Kolora-Noorat scored a 38-27 win in the A reserve game, Grace Lee shooting 22 goals.
Old Collegians took out the B grade game with a 32-27 win.
Alexandra Smith scored 13 goals for the Power, with Alexis Ameduri scoring 11.
Old Collegians had a strong 67-20 win in the 17 and under game, with Isla Nolan shooting 11 goals for Power.
