Power starts strong but falls short
KOLORA-NOORAT were competitive but ultimately fell short in their round six Warrnambool and District senior football match on Saturday.

Russells Creek kicked five first quarter goals to set up a lead that the Power was unable to bridge; the visitors recording a 12.18.90 to 9.6.60 win at the Noorat Recreation Reserve.
“We started really well, though we lost the toss, and it was a pretty strong breeze going one way,” Power coach Shane Scanlon said.
“It was pretty well even for most of the first quarter, or at least half the first quarter, and then it was pretty even sort of across the ground, they kicked a few late ones to get a bit of a break.”
The absence of recruit Jack Lehamnn hurt the Power.
“We just lacked a bit of a focal point up forward really, but overall still pretty happy with the effort like that.
“They’re a pretty good quality side and we’re certainly competitive every week, we haven’t really had any sort of disappointing games that we haven't been in at all.”
Caleb Kavenagh was best for the Power in the loss.
“The rain came during the second quarter, which is probably why the toss was pretty crucial, it got pretty slippery after that.
“Caleb’s just pretty clean with any conditions, so he stood out, it doesn’t matter if it’s wet or dry, he was pretty clean with his hands.”
Ted Kenna and Fred Beasley were also in the Power’s best.
“Ted’s in his first year out of under 18s, he really has just taken a step up to be a quality senior player every week at the moment, he’s another one that it doesn’t really matter too much with conditions, he’s got clean hands and is a really good finisher.
“Fred came back in after a sort of couple weeks, he was good right from the start.”
This Saturday Kolora-Noorat take on Timboon at Timboon.
“Timboon down there are always hard, it doesn’t really matter where they are on the ladder or anything like that.
“They’re just one of those teams that’s always hard to beat at their ground, they’ll be a good test for us, and then we’ve got the ball Saturday night, so hopefully we can have a good showing on Saturday to take that celebration into Saturday night.”
Russells Creek was too strong in the reserves, scoring a 10.14.74 to 1.3.9 win.
Lachlan Taylor, Mitchell Wyss and Harry Standish were best for the Power, with junior player Ben Whytcross kicking the only goal.
The under 18.5 game saw Russells Creek win, 9.16.70 to 5.1.31.
Damon Anders, Xavier Riches, Tom Anderson, Patrick Spokes, Sonny Podger and Ben Whytcross were best for Kolora-Noorat, with Kai Tonkin and Damon Anders kicking two goals each.
Russells Creek also won in the under 13.5 football, 20.9.129 to 0.0.0.
Rohan Elliott, Jaylen Timperley and Jimmy Selman were best for the junior Power.
