Slow start proves costly for Power
A FAST finishing Kolora-Noorat senior football team fell 10 points short of the Timboon Demons on Saturday in the round seven Warrnambool and District match.
The Power was 44 points down at the last change but kicked five goals while keeping the Demons scoreless in the last quarter in the 14.6.90 to 11.14.80 loss at the Timboon Recreation Reserve.
“We just seemed a bit slow out of the box” Power coach Shane Scanlon said.
“We’ve been starting pretty well in the other games, but we were a little bit flat and didn't have enough run, they outnumbered us across the ground.”
Aside from the slow start, Scanlon said his team didn’t make the most of their opportunities throughout.
“We didn’t capitalise well enough when we had a chance to kick goals.
“In the end we were going strong, but just got beaten by the clock.”
With the competition so even, Scanlon lamented the loss.
“It was a disappointing loss, we need to get a few wins in those sort of games, wins are pretty hard to come across this year.”
Recruit Jack Lehmann returned to the team and kicked four goals, but missed a few as well.
“Between Jack and Ted Kenna, as much as they played well, if they kicked like what they usually would, it’s probably a different story.
“We have been sort of doing a bit of forward and back with Jack, but we went with him just forward all day, which knowing that we probably needed to try and kick a few more, put a bit more score on the board.”
Caleb Kavenagh was best for the Power in the loss.
“Caleb was the main reason for how we came home.
“He just got his hands on the footy at every start, basically won every clearance.”
This week the Power host South Rovers at Noorat.
“It’s a game that’s certainly winnable, but if we rock up a bit flat and not ready to go they could easily get a jump on us as well.
“So that’s probably the focus this week, to make sure we are right to go from the start.”
The reserves saw Timboon too strong, scoring a 14.8.92 to 1.4.10 win.
Ethan McMaster, Caleb McLean and Riley Scanlon were best for the Power, with Scanlon kicking the only goal.
The under 18.5 game saw Timboon win, 5.10.40 to 4.4.28.
Riley Kelly, Beau Mitchell, Kai Tonkin and Fletcher Tolland were best for the Power, with Kelly kicking two goals.
Timboon was also too strong in the under 13.5 football, winning 5.10.40 to 2.0.12.
Riley McIntosh, Crawford Dunn and Jack Menz were best for the junior Power.

In the A grade netball, Kolora-Noorat made it three wins in a row, winning 47-32.
“It was a great win by the girls, it was a big team effort,” Power coach Lillie Bourke said.
Ailish Glennen was again Kolora-Noorat’s best in the win, playing goal defence.
“Ailish is incredible, she’s just everywhere.
“The way that she directs the play in a defensive way is fantastic, along with the encouragement and she gets the balls that you don't think that someone could get to.”
Emily Forrest led the scoring for the Power with 22 goals, Bourke scored 19 and Tara Elliott 12.
“It was a really important win for us.
“As a supporter said to me the other day, we think it's the first time in a very long time that A grade have beat Timboon at Timboon.
The A reserve game saw Timboon win 45-37.
Nicole O’Shannessy, Zoe James and Jessica Beasley were best for the Power, with Sophie Lehmann shooting 20 goals.
The B grade game saw Timboon score a 40-32 win.
Grace Roberts, Amarli Lawlor and Lucy Eldridge were best, with Alexandra Smith shooting 21 goals.
The 17 and under netball saw Kolora-Noorat win 33-25.
Olivia Coburn, Harriot Riches and Ivy Kenna were the Power’s best, with Harriot Riches shooting 20 goals and Eliza Beaton 13.
Timboon scored a 48-7 win in the 15 and under game.
Ruby Williams and Syriah Guy were best for the Power, with Coburn scoring all seven goals.
Timboon got the points in the 13 and under game with a 50-13 win.
Kayla Denny, Tilli Hutchins and Indi Blair were the Power’s best, with Blair shooting seven goals.
The 11 and under game saw Timboon win 37-2.
Elsie Delaney, Philippa Dunn and Dakota Mason were best for the junior Power team.
