Strong performance from Power
KOLORA-Noorat took it right up to reigning premiers Nirranda on Saturday, going down by 19 points in the round four Warrnambool and District senior football match.
After leading at quarter time, the Power was outscored eight goals to two in the last three quarters in the 8.13.61 to 5.12.42 loss at the Noorat Recreation Reserve.
“The scoreline was probably even closer than what it looked like; we led all day until about halfway through the last quarter, then they got a point up and they were kicking with a pretty strong breeze at that stage,” Kolora-Noorat coach Shane Scanlon said.
“We just couldn’t quite hang on, then they kicked a late goal that was probably the sealer, put it out to seven points, and then they actually kicked two in the last minute that blew it out a bit.”
Scanlon was pleased with the effort but disappointed his team couldn’t carry it all the way through.
“Yeah, there was plenty of positive signs.
“We’ve been competitive every game really, this one we just couldn’t quite hang in there, couldn’t score against the wind.”
Jack Lehmann continues to impress at the Power and was named best.
“We used him forward and back, he’s good at either end, another one of him would be handy.
“We played him either end, wherever the play was and he was very good.”
Caleb Kavenagh and Ted Kenna were also among the Power’s best.
“Caleb just plays on ball, he’s pretty classy, he pretty much doesn’t play a bad game.
“Ted’s still only 18, he seems to be handling the senior footy pretty comfortably, playing a consistent four quarters, so he’ll be one to watch for the next few years.”
This week Kolora-Noorat are slated to play the struggling Dennington at Noorat.
In the reserves, Nirranda scored an 11.11.77 to 3.3.21 win.
Neil Kelly, Michael Bell and Jake Somerville were the Power’s best, with Paul Messer kicking all three goals.
In the under 18.5 game, Kolora Noorat had a 13.15.93 to 3.4.22 win.
Kai Tonkin, Fletcher Tolland and Ben Whytcross were best for the Power, with Tonkin bagging seven goals and Tolland kicking two.
In the under 13.5 football, Nirranda won 13.9.87 to 5.2.32.
Best for Kolora Noorat were Jack Menz, Hamish Messer and Crawford Dunn, with Messer kicking two goals with one each to Menz, Dunn and Jaylen Timperley.

The A grade netball match saw Nirranda run out winners 66-31.
Hannah O’Connor, Mahni Beasley and Isabelle Kenna were best for Kolora Noorat, with Tara Elliott scoring 23 goals.
The A reserve game saw Nirranda score a 35-23 win.
Nicole O’Shannessy, Grace Lee and Jessica Beasley were best for the Power, with O’Shannessy shooting nine goals and Grace Lee eight.
In the B grade netball, Nirranda won 44-14.
Layla Gleeson, Amarli Lawlor and Grace Roberts were the Power’s best.
The 17 and under netball saw Kolora-Noorat have a big 48-13 win.
Harriot Riches, Millie Castersen and Olivia Coburn were best for Kolora Noorat, with Riches scoring 22 goals and Eliza Beaton 18.
The 15 and under game saw Kolora-Noorat have a 29-15 win.
Isla Spokes, Courtney Stonehouse and Zoe Roberts were the Power’s best, with Spokes shooting 14 goals.
The 13 and under netball saw the Power win 14-11.
Best for the Power were Tilli Hutchins, Clancey Greene and Sophie Simpson, with Blair shooting eight goals.
In the 11 and under game, Nirranda won 10-4.
Best for the Power were Rosie Selman, Elsie Delaney and Philippa Dunn.
