Summer earns state title
NOORAT Primary School student Summer Sharp has been named a state champion despite competing against much older students.

Summer was competed at the All Schools Track and Field Championships where she claimed victory in the under 15 para discus, despite being a younger athlete.
“I went to All Schools in Melbourne over the weekend where I got first in discus,” she said.
“I won with a 10-metre throw.
“I’m 12 but I was competing in the under 15 so I felt pretty good.
“It was nice to know I’m a state champion.
“I also got 14th in the shotput but next week I have javelin and long jump.”
Summer has long proven a talented athlete but only this year had begun competing in discus, expanding on her existing skillset.
In a show of appreciation, Summer also made the decision to donate her region medals to the school to showcase the excellence which students can achieve despite competing against much larger student cohorts.
“I got those medals for the school regionals so I wanted to donate them,” she said.
“I’ve got way too many medals – I probably have around 50 with more stored away somewhere.
“Mum was very proud and happy.”
